(715) The Washington Island Observer is the news connection from the Island to locals, visitors, and those who are off the Island. For businesses, it is an advertising necessity. A local paper is a medium that is vital to a community and a breath of fresh air in relation to the negativity of current news media. In the Observer, you can still read poetry and prose written by students, youth sports accomplishments, celebration of seniors, birth announcements, accounts of those who have died, weddings, other special events and more. The endeavor that the current owners have begun needs to be continued. With technology advances, the Observer is uploaded to the printer in about 30 minutes. There are 30 issues per year, with weekly printings during the summer season. Other sources of income include boxholder mailings, booklets, posters, flyers and other printing jobs. There is a rental apartment over the Observer. The main floor has an entry porch, lobby, counter, and office area. There are two other office areas, one a more private back room office. Toward the back is a kitchen area, half bath, a storage room. An additional storage space is located on the north side of the lobby. There is also a back porch. Historically this building was the Island Branch of Baylake Bank until it became the home of the Washington Island Observer in 1992. This is an opportunity for ownership of a growing business that offers expansion possibilities and/or the addition of a second business at a great central location. $150,000.
